The heavy quark expansion in QCD became a widely used tool
in heavy quark physics. The theoretical aspects of the
$1/m_Q$ expansion ($m_Q$ being the mass of the heavy quark)
and some techniques as they appear in practical calculations
are reviewed. Some applications to processes involving heavy
quark decays are discussed.
