22.06.2020 Seminars

On Wednesday, 24th of June, Lucas Kunz will present aspects of his master thesis project in a institute's seminar titled “Unified Theories with flavour symmetries”. For this week's particle physics colloquium we are looking forward to Kathrin Valerius presenting “Probing the neutrino mass scale – first results and future perspectives of KATRIN”.

08.06.2020 Institute's seminar

This weeks remote institute's seminar will be given by Aliaksei Kachanovich on “Higgs Portal Dark Matter” on Wednesday, 10th of June at 11:30. Members of the institute will receive invitations and a password for login via email. We resume with the particle physics colloquium next week, since Thursday, 11th of June is a public holiday.




25.05.2020 Reconnect2020

If you are interested in intriguing high-energy physics talks, there is the opportunity to listen to some prominent speakers during the online “RECONNECT 2020” conference happening this week. See indico for further details. The institute's seminars on Wednesdays the 27.05. and the week after will be devoted to theoretical predictions for “Double Higgs Production”. Speakers are Joshua Davies and Florian Herren.

11.05.2020 Seminars

We are looking forward to this week's particle particle physics colloquium by Keith Ellis (IPPP, Durham) on “The Future of Higgs boson physics”. The seminar will take place remotely on Thursday, 14.05 at 3:45pm. This weeks institute's seminar will be given by Jordan Bernigaud on “Flavourful Leptoquarks & discrete symmetries, from bottom-up to top-down”.

05.05.2020 Seminars

We are happy to announce the first talk of this semester's particle physics colloquium by Lorenzo Tancredi, former postdoc at TTP, now Royal Society University Research Fellow at the University of Oxford. The remote seminar on “Progress in multi-loop calculations for the LHC” will take place Thursday, 07.05 at 3.45pm. The institute's seminar this week will be given by Matthias Linster on “A Study of New Physics Searches with Tritium and Similar Molecules”. Members of the institute will receive invitations and passwords for login for both events via email.




27.04.2020 Institute Seminar

This week, we will have the second institute seminar of the semester. Harun Acaroğlu will talk about “The EFT Higgs Mass Prediction of FlexibleSUSY and its Uncertainty” next Wednesday, 29th of April at 11:30. The seminar will again be broadcasted on our new teaching platform. Members of the institute will receive invitations and a password for login via email.

20.04.2020 Semester start

The semester has started! The institute's teaching activity can be found here, including online lectures and tutorials on particle physics and programming. We are also happy to resume our institute seminar remotely, it will take place Wednesday at 11:30. Members of the institute will receive invitations via email and can login with their usual credentials here. Our first speaker this week is Go Mishima on “Iterative structure of Mellin-Barnes integrals”. An additional seminar on BSM physics takes place on Mondays at 15:45 on the same platform.

20.03.2020 TTP goes home office

In light of the ongoing Covid-19 outbreak, members of the TTP started to work at home earlier this week. However, all institute members (including Ms. Schorn!) are still reachable via email. For communication among institute members, check out mattermost. The KIT provides useful information here.

31.01.2020 KSETA Plenary Workshop

The 7th KSETA Plenary Workshop took place from 19th to 21st of February in Durbach with the participation of 100 KSETA members.

The program included a wine tasting and a bouldering trip as a get-together, invited talks on topics like the PTOLEMY experiment, neutrino and “beauty” physics, detector instrumentation and meetings of both the PIs and the fellows. Further talks were given by doctoral fellows, this year, Florian Herren from TTP presented his work on “Higgs Boson Production at the LHC”. Further information on the event can be found here.

TTP congratulates David Wellmann on the successful defence of his Ph.D. Thesis “Top Quark Mass Effects in Higgs and Z Boson Pair Production and Higgs Boson Decays”!

28.01.2020 CRC Workshop on Soft-Collinear QCD Dynamics

TTP members Konstantin Asteriadis, Wojciech Bizon, Daniel Baranowski, Arnd Behring, Max Delto and Kirill Melnikov presented recent results at a workshop on “Soft-Collinear QCD Dynamics”. The event was hosted at the Emmy-Noether-Campus in Siegen from 23rd to 24th of January to stimulate the exchange between different groups in the CRC Particle Physics Phenomenology after the Higgs Discovery. 13.01.2020 26th EPIPHANY Conference in Cracow

The 26th edition of the Epiphany Conference on LHC Physics took place from the 7th to th 10th January in Cracow, Poland. Konstantin Asteriadis gave a talk on “Nested soft-collinear subtractions in NNLO QCD computations” and Wojciech Bizon presented results on “Higgs decays into b-quarks”. 13.01.2020 Advanced School of the IIAS

TTP member Matthias Linster participated in the 37th edition of the Advanced School in Theoretical Physics: New Ideas for Old Puzzles in Particle Physics, which took place from 29th December to 9th January in Jerusalem.

29.11.2019 Visit by Yukinari Sumino

We are pleased to have Yukinari Sumino from Tohoku University in Sendai, Japan, visiting the institute for two weeks. He will give a seminar on “α_s determination from static potential: OPE with renormalon subtraction and lattice QCD” on Tuesday, 3rd of December at 3.45pm in room 10/1.




13.11.2019 Physics at the Terrascale - 13th Annuaal meeting

The annual Helmholtz Alliance Workshop on “Physics at the Terascale” took place at DESY Hamburg from 25th to 27th of November including talks by TTP members Konstantin Asteriadis, Wolfgang Hollik, Ulrich Nierste, Ivan Nisandzic and Matthias Steinhauser. 13.11.2019 Julius Wess Award 2018

The Julius Wess Award 2018 was presented to Prof. Dr. Sally Dawson, Brookhaven National Laboratory, USA, in recognition of her “outstanding scientific contributions to the theoretical description and deepened understanding of processes at hadron colliders, in particular regarding the physics of the Higgs boson and the top quark”. Prof. Dawson will give an associated series of seminars seminars between the 9th and 13th of December.

08.11.2019 Double-defence at the TTP

TTP congratulates Marta Moscati and Kirill Kudashkin on their successful doctoral defenses! Marta worked on “Lepton Flavour Non-Universality”, Kirill on “Next-to-Leading Order QCD Corrections to Higgs Production and Mixed QCD-Electroweak Corrections to Z Boson Production at High Transverse Momentum”.




25.10.2019 Higgs couplings 2019 in Oxford

The 8th edition of “Higgs couplings” took place from September 30th to October 4th in Oxford, UK. At this conference, Go Mishima gave a talk on “Double Higgs boson production at NLO”. More details about the conference can be found on indico.

25.10.2019 School of Analytic Computing

TTP doctoral students Konstantin Asteriadis, Max Delto and Florain Herren participated in the 5th edition of the “School of Analytic computing”, focusing on new mathematical techniques for loop computations. It took place from the 2nd to the 11th of October in Atrani, Italy. The set of lectures included an “Introduction to precision computation for LHC physics” by Kirill Melnikov, more information can be found on indico.

25.10.2019 New members at the Institute

We warmly welcome our newest members at TTP, Harun Acaroglu, Jordan Bernigaud, Matteo Fael and Kay Schönwald. We are also happy to have Robert Ziegler back at the institute, and wish all of them a pleasant and productive time in Karlsruhe.




30.09.2019 RADCOR 2019 in Avignon

The 14th edition of RADCOR took place from September 9th to 13th in Avignon, France. There, Matthias Steinhauser presented recent results on “Higher order corrections to Higgs boson pair production” and Abdur Rehman gave a talk on “Charm mass dependent NNLO corrections to B → s γ”. 30.09.2019 School on High Energy Physics in Maria Laach
TTP Doctoral Researchers Daniel Baranowski and Max Delto participated in the the 51st edition of the High Energy Physics school taking place from September 3rd to 19th in the monastery of Maria Laach.

30.09.2019 New members at the Institute

The TTP warmly welcomes its newest members, Christian Broennum-Hansen, Vladyslav Shtabovenko and Chen-Yu Wang and wishes them a pleasant and productive time in Karlsruhe.




20.08.2019 LoopFest XVIII at Fermilab

The 18th edition of the LoopFest took place from August 12 to 14 at Fermilab. There, TTP Doctoral Researcher Florian Herren presented recent results on NNLO corrections to Higgs boson pairproduction. More details about the conference can be found here.

20.08.2019 Lepton-Photon 2019 conference in Toronto

From August 5 to 11, the major particle physics conference Lepton-Photon 2019 took place in Toronto. At this meeting Monika Blanke (IKP) presented the current status of New Physics in B meson decays. More details about the conference can be found here.

19.08.2019 Visit by Dr. Martin Spinrath

Former TTP member Martin Spinrath, now at National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan is visiting us from 19.08. until 21.08.2019. He will give a seminar on “Direct Detection Prospects for the Cosmic Neutrino Background (and other Cosmic Relics)” on Tuesday, 20.8.2019 at 3.45pm in 10/1.




26.07.2019 - Ph.D defence

TTP congratulates Jakob Schwichtenberg on the successful defense of his Ph.D. Thesis “The Strong CP Problem and Non-Supersymmetric Grand Unification”!

09.07.2019 - TTP seminar

After one week break we come back to the seminar series. Next talk will be given by Mustafa Tabet. He will talk about “A supersymmetric solution to the $R_{K^\star}$ anomalies”

TTP congratulates Marco Bonetti on the successful defense of his Ph.D. Thesis “Next-to-leading order mixed QCD-electroweak corrections to Higgs boson production in gluon fusion”!

TTP congratulates Thomas Deppisch with the successful defense of his Ph.D. Thesis “Fermion Masses and Mixing in Minimal Supersymmetic SO(10) and Resummation of Gluino Contributions to the MSSM Higgs Potential”! You can find the slides from the defence here

02.04.2018 - DPG Spring Meeting 2019 in Aachen

From 25.03. to 29.03. numerous members of our institute attended to this years Spring Meeting of the German Physical Society (DPG) in Aachen. The meeting included talks, tutorials and fruitful discussions at the RWTH. Since Aachen is one of the collaborators of the CRC TRR257 “Particle Physics Phenomenology after the Higgs Discovery”, we were especially pleased to meet other scientists of the CRC to talk about current projects. 25-28.03.2019 - Visit by Dr. Roman Lee

Roman Lee from the Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics in Novosibirsk visits the TTP and provides a lecture about “Libra: a program to reduce differential equations for master integrals”. Libra is a program package which can be used to transform a system of differential equation into canonical form.




07.03.2019 - Kick-off meeting

A kick-off meeting of the Collaborative Research Center “Particle Physics Phenomenology after the Higgs discovery” will be held at KIT on March 18-19. More information about the meeting, including its scientific programme, can be found at this link.

06.03.2019 - KSETA Plenary Workshop

The sixth KSETA Plenary Workshop took place in Durbach from February 25 to 27, 2019. Marta Moscatti from the TTP gave a plenary talk about quark and lepton flavour violation in unified theories.

We are continuing the institute's seminar moving from charm to Higgs. Florian Herren tell us about “Higgs boson pair production at NNLO in the large top quark mass expansion”

28.05.2019 - TTP seminar

We continue seminar series with Abdur Rehman's talk. He will speak about B → X_s gamma decay process. In his talk he will discuss the evaluation of charm quark mass dependent matrix elements at NNLO in QCD for arbitrary value of charm quark mass.

20.05.2019 - TTP seminar
Next TTP seminar will be given by Marta Moscati, she will briefly review CP violation and then focus on the case of the D0 decays to pi pi and to KK, the two channels relevant for the discovery.

14.05.2019 - TTP seminar
We continue TTP seminar series with a talk of Sasha Penin. He will talk about “Paradoxes and breakdown of perturbative matching on the lattice”.

21.02.2019 - Schools and workshops
Recently, two TTP PhD students Kirill Kudashkin and Marco Bonetti attended the International School on "Modular forms, periods and scattering amplitudes" at the ETH Zürich. The School took place from 11.02.2019 to 15.02.2019. The goal of the school was to provide a common background to both physicists and mathematicians working in the field of scattering amplitudes and to introduce participants to new powerful tools for the evaluation and study of Feynman integrals.

23.04.2019 - TTP seminar
We are pleased to inform you that the famous TTP institute's seminar is back on Wednesdays at 11:30 in 10/1.

The first speaker is José Zurita. He will talk about minimal freeze-in and LHC friends, all about Dark Matter. The talk will take a place on 24th of April. More information about the topic of the talk might be found here .

Next TTP seminar will be given by Marvin Gerlach.He will give a short overview about non-relativistic QCD (NRQCD) and describe how a matching between QCD and NRQCD for a heavy four-quark vertex can be realized.Time and place of the event you can find in the details




03.12.2018 - New Collaborative Research Centre on Particle Physics

Funding for Collaborative Research Center TRR 257 “Particle physics phenomenology after the Higgs discovery”, proposed by theoretical particle physicists at KIT in together with researchers at Aachen, Siegen and Heidelberg, was approved by the German Research Foundation. The new Center will focus on exploring phenomenology of elementary particle physics and using high-precision data from LHC and Belle II to look for possible signs of physics beyond the Standard Model. 30.10.2018 - Lecture series by Prof. Smirnov
Prof. V. Smirnov will give three lectures on “New and Old methods of multi-loop computations on November 5, 7 and 12. The lectures are aimed at master and Ph.D. students in theoretical particle physics.

11.02.2019 - KEK Flavor Factory Workshop
This week Dr. Monika Blanke (IKP&TTP) will present the opening talk at the 6th KEK Flavor Factory Workshop in Tsukuba, Japan. More details can be found here .

07.02.2019 - Welcome back, Kostja!
A former long-time employee of TTP, Dr. Konstantin Chetyrkin, returns to our Institute for two-years. Dr. Chetyrkin will study five-loop corrections to decays of Z-bosons and tau-leptons, in the context of a DFG individual research grant of which he is a principal investigator.

18.01.2019 - Congratulations!
Two TTP Ph.D. students Marco Bonetti and Kirill Kudashkin, expected to graduate this year, have secured postdoctoral appointments starting from the fall of 2019. Marco will continue his scientific career at RWTH Aachen in the group of Prof. Robert Harlander. Kirill will join the N3PDF group led by Prof. Stefano Forte at the University of Milan.

03.12.2018 - New PostDoc positions
Within the newly established CRC, the Theoretical Particle Physics group at the partner institute IKP is searching for a postdoctoral researcher with specializations in collider and/or flavour physics beyond the Standard Model. Details can be found here

This week the TTP seminar with the title “Sector-improved residue subtraction” will be given by Arnd Behring. Arnd will present some basic ideas behind the sector-improved residue subtraction scheme, which allows to deal with infra-red singularities that arise in NNLO QCD calculations, and discuss how it allows to calculate observables at collider experiments. The external panel of experts and the DFG representatives reviewed the proposal to establish the Collaborative Research Center “Particle Physics Phenomenology after the Higgs Discovery” submitted by particle theorists of KIT, RWTH Aachen, the University of Siegen and the University of Heidelberg.

Next TTP seminar will be given by Matthieu Jaquier with the topic “Two loop amplitudes with the numerical unitarity method” on 23rd of November. Matthieu tells us about a method which allows for the computation of two loop amplitudes using numerical unitarity.
